There are two certainties about Athena Burke: She is a musical force. And she’s going to be a household name.
It’s not just that her powerful blues-infused vocals bring to mind a mesmerizing mix of Nora Jones, Sarah McLachlan and Aretha Franklin. Or that she has such a magnetic pull and inspirational message that youwant to stop everything you are doing and just listen. It’s that when you talk to her, you can hear the burning determination in her voice and know that she has finally caught hold of her dream and has claimed it with such force that there’s no other path but success.
“If you ask me what I dream of most in life, I can narrow it down to one word: Sing. I just want to sing,” Athena says softly. “That’s the way I show my love. It’s taken me my entire life to surrender to it, but it’s that simple.”
